Peter Lewis, Chief Executive, Institute of Fundraising

The lack of diversity in fundraising organisations is putting ‘severe’ brakes on the industry’s ability to raise funds, according to Peter Lewis, Chief Executive of Institute of Fundraising (IoF).

In his recent blog, which sets out IoF’s priorities for the year ahead and his fundraising resolution for 2020, Lewis points out that the industry is “missing out on a huge range of talent that can help us think and fundraise better”.

IoF’s Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Strategy sets out how fundraising organisations can recruit, retain and develop a much greater diversity of people, and it will also publish a recruitment toolkit in early Spring to provide the industry with advice on to how recruit more diverse teams, confirms Lewis. He urges the industry to use these resources to improve diversity in the sector.

“My #FundraisingResolution for 2020 is to offer you more support from the Institute in relation to making the profession more equal, more diverse and more inclusive. But I need you all to engage as well. Together we can make the profession stronger, we can deliver even better fundraising, and help create an even better world,” he concludes.
