The Marshall Plan For Moms campaign and APCO Worldwide have announced the launch of a new playbook to help employers finally make the workplace ‘work’ for working moms.
“The playbook draws on a survey of more than 1,000 American moms, plus hundreds of academic studies, articles, and expert interviews to lay out the daily injustices working moms face and exactly what they need to return to and thrive at work,” according to Reshma Saujani, former Girls Who Code CEO is behind the #MarshallPlanForMoms campaign.
Saujani has been lobbying hard urging both Congress and Corporate America in recent months to pay mothers to do the work they’re already doing at home; or support them if they wish to return to full-time jobs, as reported.
WORKING MOM BILL OF RIGHTS
“We hope employers everywhere will use this playbook to help moms, not just return to work, but to thrive,” stated Saujani. “Inside the Making Workplaces Work for Moms playbook, employers will find 10 Working Mom Bill of Rights.” They include:
1. Every mom should have maximum control over her schedule.
2. Every mom deserves support for child care.
3. Every mom deserves workplace policies that promote gender equality at home.
4. Every mom deserves paid time off and an employer who supports her mental health and wellbeing.
5. Every mom should have fair pay and a living wage.
6. Every mom should be free from facing a motherhood penalty at work.
7. Every moms deserves adequate time to recover from childbirth and bond with her babies.
8. Every mom should have on-ramps back into the workforce.
9. Every mom should get time off to care for herself or loved ones when they are sick.
10. Every mom deserves an employer that advocates for them publicly.
