Fintech firm Monzo has announced the appointment of Sheree Atcheson as its first Head of Diversity and Inclusion (D&I).
Atcheson has resigned from her role as Consulting Inclusion Lead at Deloitt, where she managed and led the inclusion strategy across its UK consulting practice, to join Monzo. She starts her new role on 4th November 2019 and will report to Monzo’s Head of People, Tara Mansfield.
In a recent interview with The Guardian, Monzo CEO Tom Blomfield revealed that “he was excited about hiring a diversity and inclusion leader” to improve D&I at Monzo. Although 26% of Monzo’s staff identify as non-straight, gender diversity “still isn’t very good”, with “men accounting for around 65% of staff”, he admitted. Age diversity is also an issue, he said, with most of Monzo’s staff currently just “in their 20s and 30s”.
DRIVING MONZO’S D&I EFFORTS
In her new role, Atcheson will drive the digital bank’s efforts to improve D&I. “Monzo is already doing great things to make its culture and leadership more diverse and inclusive, but we could always be doing more, and I’m thrilled to be leading that mission,” stated Atcheson.
“I’m really excited to have joined Monzo as Head of Diversity and Inclusion. It’s such a big responsibility and in my opinion it’s not about making a small change in the numbers here, but working to make a big impact that influences the greater business community,” she added.
As well as being a seasoned D&I professional, Atecheson is the Global Ambassador for Women Who Code, and the Founder of I Am Lanka, an organisation that highlights Sri Lanka’s local and global role models.
