A disability smart world is one in which disabled people are included in conversations and can access all environments; from workplaces to leisure spaces. That’s the focus of Business Disability Forum’s (BDF) Global Conference on 27 April 2022, sponsored by HSBC.
Creating a disability smart world together will discuss and debate the language of disability and the challenges and opportunities that come with creating truly inclusive environments. There will be two sessions to choose to attend.
LANGUAGE OF DISABILITY: LOST IN TRANSLATION
Talking about disability shouldn’t be hard; but so often fear of saying the wrong thing stops us from saying anything at all. The panellists at the event will fearlessly discuss the ‘rights’ and ‘wrongs’ of language. Should we say disabled people or people with disabilities, and does it matter? What does disability mean anyway and is it different depending on where in the world you are based? Join the thought-provoking debate.
The conversation will dig deeper and explore how organisations ensure consistently accessible environments for everyone everywhere. The answer lies not just in bricks and mortar; but also in people and how they interact with the spaces in which they live and work.
INCLUSIVE ENVIRONMENT FOR ALL
Rick Williams and Claudio Fiore Massenz from PVH (Tommy Hilfiger and Calvin Klein) explain how they have approached these challenges; and what they have learned along the way. Their presentations will be followed by a panel discussion where organisations such as Shell and GSK share what they have been doing.
This conference will run from 10 am to 1 pm (BST) and 2 pm to 5 pm (BST); so you can choose the session that suits you, wherever you are in the world. Click here for more information.
BDF has also published a new global guide to help businesses make their environments accessible for the one billion people who have a disability worldwide. Click here to read more.
