Today marks Trans Day of Visibility, a vital day to celebrate and uplift trans people while also bringing attention to the ongoing discrimination they face worldwide.
Trans people have always existed and have been fundamental in the fight for LGBTQ+ rights, with trans pioneers such as Marsha Johnson and Sylvia Rivera paving the way for liberation. Yet still today, the trans community faces ongoing violence and prejudice for simply trying to exist as their true selves.
As part of their commitment to push forward the conversation on trans rights, myGwork will be hosting a panel to raise the profile of the lived experiences of the trans community; whilst celebrating their achievements in the face of obstacles and structural challenges in both the workplace and beyond.
Today (31 March 2022) at 4:00 pm (BST), the free online panel will feature leading voices from the trans community; who will share their lived experiences and expertise on how we can all be a part of the movement for trans human rights. Amongst them is Diamond Collier, a prominent voice from the millennial Black trans community. She is also Executive Director of Black Trans Women Inc; a national non-profit focused on social advocacy, positive visibility and building strong leadership among Black trans advocates, activists and allies.
STORIES FROM THE TRANS COMMUNITY
Alongside Diamond is Ramses Oliva, transgender educator, writer, and activist; Stella Cottee, trans life coach; Nikki Phinyapincha, Director of Media Relations & Communication at Asia life Media; Ben MacEllen, author playwright and activist; and Amao Leota Lu, Director Gender & Culture Planet Ally. They all bring a unique and compelling perspective to the discussion.
The panel, sponsored by Immersive Labs, will be hosted by LGBTQ+ business platform myGwork’s. “Trans experiences are so often neglected and marginalised. The opportunity to host this event, hear our speaker’s stories, and explore what it means to be a trans person at this moment in history is a great privilege and something that means a lot to me,” stated myGwork’s Head of Social Media George Wright.
Everyone deserves to live safely and freely as their true self; without fear of violence or discrimination. Until all LGBTQ+ people are free to do this – especially the trans community – we all must continue fighting and speaking up for justice and equality. Join myGwork to learn first-hand how we can create a world where trans people everywhere can thrive.
