UN Women and the Kingdom of Bahrain’s Supreme Council for Women (SCW) have called for nominations for the Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al-Khalifa’s Global Award for Women Empowerment.
The international prize, which is awarded every three years, aims to shed light on the contributions of institutions and individuals around the world that empower women and girls. The announcement for nominations was made during the Generation Equality Forum; hosted by the Government of France and co-organised with the Government of Mexico, with UN Women, as reported.
GLOBAL EFFORTS TO ADVANCE GENDER EQUALITY
The Award not only confirms the support to global efforts towards enhancing the status of women; but also contributes directly to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly gender balance and equal opportunities. It also supports and shows appreciation for institutional and individual efforts, initiatives and projects that empower and advance women. UN Women and SCW are encouraging individual women’s empowerment champions, civil society, public and private institutions to apply.
“This global award comes as an extension of a national prize launched by HRH Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa 14 years ago; which contributed to support national efforts and increasing the participation rate of Bahraini women working in the public and private sectors,” stated HRH Princess Sabeeka Bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa; Wife of HM the King and SCW President. “We are building on this success and continuing to develop the award’s objectives and criteria after it has gained an international reputation; and is witnessing widespread interest among women and relevant organisations.”
