Workplace Mental Health in Asia

As a partner of This Can Happen, Community Business has curated a three-day workplace mental health conference for its Asia audiences this month.

Scheduled to take place between 23 and 25 November 2020, the event’s agenda will offer valuable insights into everyday issues that affect workplace mental health, including a focus on the effect of the global pandemic. “When we compiled our research into mental health in the workplace in Asia back in 2018, few companies were ready to talk about mental health – it was widely seen as a taboo subject,” according to Community Business CEO Peter Sargant.

EMPLOYEE WELLBEING CONCERNS

With the outbreak of COVID-19 and the requirement to work from home and socially distance, “we have seen that context shift dramatically, noted Sargant. “Acutely aware of the unprecedented pressures on employees, there has been an outpouring of messages from CEOs and senior leaders, expressing concern about the wellbeing of their employees.”

As a result, discussion of mental health has been fast-tracked up the corporate agenda.  “We are privileged to be partnering with This Can Happen to bring the leading mental health workplace conference to our audiences in Asia and are committed to working with senior leadership and their teams in the region to address this critical subject in the workplace,” added Sargent.

MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGE

This event comprises three live conference days full of engaging, interactive content. One of the sessions is focused on “Women in Asia and the challenge of mental health”. In this session, local experts examine how the cultural context in Asia can make women particularly vulnerable to mental health issues, discuss to what extent lockdown measures as a result of COVID-19 have exacerbated the situation for women, reinforcing gender inequalities and increasing domestic violence and share what companies can do in response.

Speakers include:

  • Manoj Chandran, CEO, White Swan Foundation for Mental Health
  • Suzanne Price, Representative Director, Price Global
  • Jaya Virwani, Ethics and D&I Leader, EY
  • Dr Prabha Chandra, Professor of Psychiatry, National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro Sciences
