Automating diversity equity and inclusion data

SixFifty has announced a new automated platform to help firms make meaningful diversity, equity and inclusion (DE&I) progress.

The technology subsidiary of the law firm Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati developed the offering in collaboration with employment attorneys at the firm to help organisations stay on the right side of equality/DE&I laws and best practices. It helps organisations assess their current DE&I efforts, create a plan of action, generate supporting policies and paperwork, and collect employee feedback.

“Many organisations want to increase the diversity and inclusion of their workforce but don’t have the resources to make meaningful progress,” commented Kimball Dean Parker, CEO of SixFifty. “We worked with the employment attorneys at Wilson Sonsini to think through the key points that organisations need to consider to plan and implement a compliant and successful diversity, equity and inclusion programme. We then automated that expertise in order to lower the time and cost.”

AUTOMATED EXPERTISE

SixFifty helps businesses with their DE&I plans in three steps. Firstly, the automated system asks organisations a series of questions to evaluate their DE&I efforts. Based on the answers, the platform produces an assessment and plan of action that organisations can use to guide their path forward. For organisations that are focusing on DE&I for the first time, the assessment and plan of action will identify the initial steps that they should take to start their DE&I journey.

Secondly, SixFifty’s platform helps firms to implement their DE&I plans by generating customised policies and supporting employment paperwork. It also provides an employee portal where organisations can input feedback from their workforce. The portal can confidentially gather and catalogue comments/complaints, creating an audit-ready record of compliance. Finally, as relevant laws and best practices evolve, SixFifty and Wilson Sonsini said they will automatically update the platform to incorporate changes. SixFifty said it will also meet with client firms on a quarterly basis to ensure goals are met and systems are up-to-date.

RESOLVING LEGAL CHALLENGES

“When forming a diversity, equity and inclusion programme, employers need to take into account guidance and requirements from all levels of government,” stated Marina Tsatalis, Partner at Wilson Sonsini who leads the firm’s employment law practice. “We are working with SixFifty to prepare the policies and plans of action and to keep them updated and current as the legal landscape evolves in this area.”

SixFifty’s DE&I tool is the latest in a series of products to help businesses handle situations that can be legally complicated. Its also offers products that help companies with privacy compliance (GDPR and CCPA) and employment issues related to Covid-19, such as telecommuting and return to work.
