The role of education to achieve racial equality

Later this week, several of the UK’s leading thought leaders in the education industry will discuss the role of education to help achieve racial equality.

The 90-Minute free virtual event, organised by Dr Matt William Access Fellow at Jesus College, will take place on Friday June 12 at 10.30am (BST). Confirmed panelists include Samira Ahmed, Broadcaster; Patricia Daley, Vice Principal Jesus College and Professor in Geography; Adrian Clarke, Careers Leader at Ernest Bevin College; Paulina Kewes, Professor in English Literature at Oxford University; and Clare Williams, alumna of Oxford University.

RACE TALK

Themes that will be covered include:

  • What is the role of education in bringing about societal change in the UK?
  • Anti-Racism in the context of white privilege. What does this mean?
  • What needs to happen now to bring about racial equality? This includes decolonising the syllabus.
  • Personal testimonies of the Black experience where participants tell their stories.
