The New York City Bar has organised an event to discuss what transgender/non–binary allyship means for the legal profession. It is scheduled to take place on 19th March 2020 in New York. 

The event will explore intersectionality of transgender and gender binary people who have a diverse range of experiences and are affected by social conditions, such as race, immigration status, language, gender expression and disability.

Speakers will discuss the positive impact of ‘affirming’ gender identity/expression practices in the courtroom or the workplace. They will also address the steps that can be taken to ensure legal compliance and how to become allies.

Leading speakers include: Alejandra CaraballoStaff Attorney, Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund; Chanel Lopez, Transgender Communities Liaison, NYC Commission on Human Rights; Elana Redfield, Director of LGBTQI Affairs, NYC Department of Social Services; and L Tantay, Gender Justice Manager/LGBTQ Liaison, NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
