Dods D&I has organised a London event ‘Supporting Black, Asian and ethnic minorities (BAME) in the workplace‘ on 23rd January 2020.

According to the events organiser, one in eight of the working age population are of BAME background, yet just one in sixteen top management positions in the UK is held by somebody from an ethnic minority background. In fact, BAME representation in the leading positions of UK workplaces remains stubbornly low.

Improving the employment rate and workplace progression for people from ethnic minorities could contribute £24 billion a year to the UK’s gross domestic product, making the business case for diversity in the workplace unavoidable, says Dods D&I. With organisations being pushed to publish their ethnicity pay gap data, it’s time to start addressing the disparities that exist in our workplaces.

PRACTICAL ADVICE

This conference offers practical advice on removing the barriers that are preventing BAME representation in the workplace, confirms Dods D&I: “We will explore how best to recruit and promote a more representative workforce, and how to encourage a positive culture change at all levels of your place of work. This unique event particularly encourages attendance from professionals who do not identify as BAME.”

The day offers attendees a space for productive discussion surrounding D&I, and an opportunity to explore their role in the conversation.

Key speakers include:

  • Gift Ajimokun, Early Careers Coordinator, Penguin Random House UK and Top 10 BAME Workplace Hero 2019, The Ethnicity Awards
