Japan Tobacco International (JTI) has been recognised as a ‘Top Employer’ in the Asia Pacific region for the sixth consecutive year, confirms The Top Employers Institute.
Organisations evaluated by The Top Employers Institute are rigorously assessed on various HR and D&I criteria, such as: Talent Strategy, Workforce Planning, Talent Acquisition, On-boarding, Learning & Development, Performance Management, Leadership Development, Career & Succession Management, Compensation & Benefits and Culture – to achieve ‘Top Employer’ certification.
The international tobacco and vaping company confirms that it has achieved the ‘Top Employer’ certification for 10 offices across nine countries in the region. They include Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Russia, Singapore, Thailand and Korea.
This achievement demonstrates JTI’s status as an ‘employer of choice’, notes David Plink, CEO of The Top Employers Institute: “Achieving this level of certification showcases the dedication of consistent application of HR excellence on a regional level. Congratulations!”
EMPLOYER OF CHOICE
Several successful workplace initiatives have helped JTI achieve ‘Top Employer’ status. These include programmes aimed at empowering women and enabling leadership. The ‘Lunch and Learn’ programme, launched across the region last year for example, helped staff to better understand unconscious bias and other important D&I themes.
JTI says it also keeps a close eye on employee engagement, through staff surveys conducted globally every three years. The results are communicated to all employees and follow-up action plans are based on the survey results to keep staff motivated. Its pan-regional Asia Pacific Management Trainee Programme, ‘Explore’, is also helping JTI to build functional expertise and a broad business perspective with multicultural awareness, through rotational assignments across the region.
PUTTING PEOPLE FIRST
For JTI, its employees are ‘a priority’ because they are ‘key to building a business for the long term in Asia Pacific and around the world’. “At JTI, people are valued for who they are and for what they can bring. But it is our role in HR to invest in our people, so that they are optimally supported and developed for a rewarding career at JTI,” says Mike Griffiths, JTI’s People & Culture Vice President for Asia Pacific.
“Putting our people first is at the heart of what we do. With a spirit and culture where people are empowered to deliver our company vision and values, we believe that everyone counts and has a role to play in our success. In a region where we have grown significantly in recent years, it is crucial that we strive to be the best we can be for our people, and continue to nurture our talent at all levels of the organisation for future business growth,” he adds.
