The Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre will host the 2nd Organisation of Islamic Cooperation Festival. The four-day festival, which opens on the 24th April 2019, will provide a platform for Islamic nations to strengthen collaboration and form new partnerships, according to the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC)
The event, organised in collaboration with the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), aims to provide ‘invaluable’ insight into the diversity of the Muslim faith through the range of different cultures and traditions from across the Muslim world.
AN EDUCATIVE & INFORMATIVE PLATFORM
The festival is open to both Muslims and non-Muslims who want to learn more about the religion. “The festival is a gateway for Muslims around the world to gain invaluable insight into the diversity of their faith through the range of different cultures and traditions of nations within our organisation while remaining true to the religious values of Islam,” confirmed Youssef Aldobeay, Advisor of H.E the Secretary General for Political Affairs, Elected Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and OIC General Secretariat. “In addition, it serves as a crucial educative and informative platform for non-Muslims to learn about our faith.”
Adding to his comments, His Excellency Mohammed Saif Helal Al Shehhi, Director of the United Nations Administration of MOFA, stated: “The festival aims to enrich the global awareness of Islamic culture with the participation of many Islamic countries by providing a platform designed to highlight cultures, traditions and values of Islamic civilisation. The event is held in the UAE ‘Year of Tolerance’ to highlight the great values and principles of Islam and to coincide with the 50th anniversary of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.”
CELEBRATORY ACTIVITIES
The event will feature Islamic scholars and thought leaders, live performances by the Abu Dhabi Folklore Group and Egypt’s Alexandria Folklore Dance Troupe, as well as art exhibitions to showcase the UAE’s cultural heritage. Other activities include interactive areas, such as a dedicated zone displaying traditional and modern Islamic calligraphy, and a children’s entertainment area for storytelling by renowned authors. The festival will also celebrate Palestinian culture through art and short films.
